Tonight was the big show that has been the drama camp's major project that I've been leading for the past two weeks. I gotta say that it was really awesome. First, the kids really stepped up like only kids can! They were spot on with their lines and delivery and they couldn't have made me prouder.
Also, the audience was great - they seriously had a great time and you could tell they just kept on wanting more - lots of laughs and cheers. Each kid had a speaking part in the play and it was really great to see each one deliver on their lines and be a part of making this show magical. There is really something speical when you make a room full of people laugh and I am just so happy that these kids get the chance to do this at such a young age. Imagine them when they're older - no fear in front of people that adults would pay big money for and now they are starting to have that.
Finally, I am just really proud of my family.
Lyric, my niece, played the terrifyingly hilarious Goliath and she was....terrifyingly hilarious! She was on top of Noah Taylor's shoulders (God bless him!!) so she looked very tall and she spoke in this loud angry voice. She played the part brillinatly and I loved every part of it.
Cosette, the youngest kid in the play, did such a great job delivering her lines - she got a big laugh as one of Davids sons who could "run really fast" and that's why she deserved to be the next king. After the show Judah was running around in circles saying "i'm cosi, i'm cosi, I run really fast." Her part made a big impression on him!
Selah played David himself, the shepherd boy. At 7 years old, her gift for acting is really mature. It's amazing what she brought to the part. The emotion she put into her lines really conveyed the passion that David must have felt and she really moved you. The final scene when she fights Goliath and cuts of his head was acted out in with a strobe light and she had to dramatically act/mime the whole thing of picking up Goliath's sword and cutting off his head. The thing is, she had to take 1 minute and 20 seconds to do that! That is a LONG time to mime something but she pulled if off like a pro and the crowd was inspired by this little shepherd boy.
Finally, Charis played the improtu narrator and she was impresive. She had a "special connection" with Goliath (even though they were sworn enemies) and it was really funny and fun ot watch Lyric and Charis play off each other. They are the best of friends and that only enhanced their dialogue together. Even when part of her lines were skipped over and she had to improvise, she was brilliant and didn't miss a beat. Charis is such a performer.
I feel so blessed to be surrounded by such special talent. I look forward to seeing where it takes my kids and what God has in store. Who knows, maybe Jason will be directin them someday!
